Theatre review: On the Line: Media
Edinburgh Festival Fringe Scotsman review: On the Line: Media at La Tasca (venue 279), reviewed by David Pollock
Fifty per cent of Britain will be eastern European by 2018 and the population of Krakow is already a little less than 300 due to emigration. So says a random online survey picked up by newspaper The World of News, and hard-hitting television news programme On the Line has enlisted a crack team of talking heads to discuss it.
There is the well-off neoliberal proprietor of the paper, the modern liberal (ie “poor and lazy”) woman who is roundly ignored and the racist nimby who is building a wall around his village with hired Polish labourers.
There are plenty of cannily topical jokes and scenarios here, but over the hour it begins to feel like a funny sketch stretched into a laboured sitcom pilot.
