Theatre review: Hanging Bruce-Howard
Edinburgh Festival Fringe Scotsman review: Hanging Bruce-Howard at C Nova (Venue 145), reviewed by Matt Trueman
Fading thesp Lloyd Bruce-Howard is trying to persuade a Russian billionaire to back his latest project in this convoluted and navel-gazing farce. Rather than follow the logic of the particular situation, student company Gone Rogue Productions throw every farce staple – ex-wives, Polish plumbers, one-night stands – into the mix, leaving too much set-up, not enough pay-off and a main plot that relies on a script that can’t be replaced.
There’s next to no psychological credibility here, but the young cast play it with such exuberance and gusto that you’ll end up smiling along nonetheless.
Until 26 August. Today 12:05pm
