Theatre review: She Dances With Fate
Edinburgh Fringe Scotsman review: She Dances With Fate at New Town Theatre (Venue 7), reviewed by Fiona Shepherd
This self-styled flamenco hip-hopera throws mime, acrobatics, a DJ, live music, tribal costume and numerous styles of choreography into its nebulous tale of a beautiful immortal chosen as the plaything of the gods – and serves up a dog’s breakfast of a show, where the dancing is far more eloquent than the uniformly self-conscious acting and stilted storytelling.
Our heroine, Amara, is supposed to signify passion, but the strongest, most soulful performances in this erratic production come from a gypsy guitar and vocal duo who pop up from time to time to soundtrack Amara’s travails.
