Theatre review: Dirty Laundry
Edinburgh Fringe Scotsman review: Dirty Laundry at Underbelly Cowgate (Venue 61), reviewed by Matt Trueman
Rachel Hirons’ last Fringe play, When Women Wee, is headed for the big screen. This one is less a play, more a pitch for a sitcom. Frankly, it hasn’t a hope in hell.
Aiming for the little-life-big-heart combo so well deployed by Derek, Hirons ends up sniffing at Esther, a socially-dysfunctional laundrette loner, played gurning and goggle-eyed by Hayley Jayne Standing, who really should know better, while supporting characters smack of snobbery. There are spin-dry cycles with more laughs.
