Musical review: A Little Piece of Heaven
Edinburgh Festival Fringe Scotsman review: A Little Piece of Heaven at Paradise in Augustine’s (Venue 152), reviewed by David Pollock
There’s plenty of ambition in the young Duckegg Theatre Company’s work, with a musical drama about internet conspiracy theories centred on the London 2012 Olympics and the cult that springs up afterwards creating lots of possibilities.
As you might expect from a youthful group, it is a raw piece of work, and there is often either too much going on or too little, both onstage and in individual performances. Fewer video inserts would bring down an over-long running time, too.
Yet some of the players here show a great deal of individual promise and the song and dance sequences in particular are constructed with enthusiasm and tightly-controlled choreography.
Until 18 August. Today 1:45pm
