Theatre review: Torniquet 2013
Edinburgh Fringe Scotsman review: Torniquet 2013 at Summerhall (VENUE 26), reviewed by Matt Trueman
Three naked Belgians, a bathful of cold water, paint splashed around, clouds of corn flour and a sparking hand-sander adds up to a strange, sensual, trance-like exorcism from Abattoir Fermé. With its striking, but completely impenetrable images, this kind of work stands or falls on the electric charge it manages to send through the auditorium.
Some will find it a transcendent, earth-shattering experience. Others will radically revise their understanding of what theatre can be. But for this (jaded?) critic, it felt both flat and old hat.
