Theatre review: Extreme Withdrawal is Manifest
Edinburgh Fringe Scotsman review: Extreme Withdrawal is Manifest at Laughing Horse @ The Phoenix (Venue 146), reviewed by Claire Smith
What is going on in the mind of a teenager who becomes depressed and shut off from the world?
Using cut-out paper masks the performers show how doctors, teachers and parents try to reach out to the suffering girl. It is a heartfelt piece but needs a stronger story at its core. A stronger sense of who these characters are might have helped.
Nonetheless, it is cheering to see young theatre groups using the Free venues to make their first steps on the Fringe and taking the opportunity to tackle issues which directly concern them.
MORE INFO: Extreme Withdrawal is Manifest at Laughing Horse @ The Phoenix (Venue 146), until 26 August
