Theatre review: American Gun Show
Edinburgh Fringe Scotsman review: American Gun Show at Gryphon Venues at the Point (Venue 109), reviewed by Matt Trueman
Were Chris Harcum’s anti-gun message as important to him as he claims, he wouldn’t meander through unconnected material: skits on subway nose-pickers and Times Square tourists, for example. As such, he repeatedly deflates a piece that dares to invoke recent shootings in Aurora, Sandy Hook and Newport.
Harcum’s a perky, if over-eager, performer with flashes of probing intelligence, but he’s not in control of his material. So much so that when his central argument appears, it seems to intrude with a sudden swerving into seriousness and he misses the biggest question.
