Comedy review: Akmal
Edinburgh Fringe Scotsman review: Akmal at Assembly George Square (Venue 3), reviewed by Ashley Davies
Considering the affection a lot of Australians have for their countryman, Akmal Saleh, this show is a big disappointment.
The comic, radio host and author is at his best when ad-libbing, but he seems to be pitching his material at people who don’t want to hear anything original.
His worst sin, however, is to pick on audience members who aren’t laughing, suggesting they don’t like the swearing or don’t get the jokes. He seems to think his national stereotype gags are edgy but they’re just shallow and boring.
MORE INFO: Akmal at Assembly George Square (Venue 3), until 26 August
